When I wake up this morning, I'm sitting on our sleeping mat and looking into an empty room. - Our freedom project is taking shape. I am always amazed at how easy it is to let go and part with things. Luckily 🍀 less is often more.

Our beloved Rocket Mozzafiato portafilter coffee machine is being collected today. The Mazzer Mini coffee grinder already left the apartment yesterday.

Just a year ago, I was firmly convinced that I couldn't survive without our brewing unit. Today, I'm happy that I can use my hand grinder again. Early morning exercise is guaranteed. Nevertheless, I am pleased that both the grinder and the coffee machine remain in the hands of friends. If I ever want a coffee like this again, at least I know where I can get it.

Please don't be surprised, not only we are moving, but also planBwagen.de - Since we want to continue the blog, we have decided to move the site from JIMDO to WordPress. Until the move is complete, you will still be able to find us at www.GlücksMuskel.de. We will keep you up to date on this.

Despite my coffee, I'm still a little tired. This could be due to the many impressions of yesterday. Yesterday morning I took the train from Cologne to Neidenstein, more precisely to Terranger, the off-road and travel technology specialist. BUTCH was given a little makeover here. I already wrote a lot about the air suspension in our last article.

In addition, BUTCH received underbody protection from Terranger: sheets of up to 8 mm aluminum sheet metal not only protect the engine and gearbox as usual, but also cover the entire underbody including the tank, the exhaust system, the cardan shaft, the auxiliary and parking heater and the rear axle differential. Three components are bolted together. Side bends are also designed to protect the sills from damage in the event of contact with the ground. Due to the existing openings for ventilation, the temperature behavior of the components on the underbody supposedly corresponds almost exactly to the standard condition. Let us be surprised.

There are children and dogs who go around all the puddles, and there are those who jump right into them. As I belong to the second category, something has also been done under the hood: BUTCH has been fitted with a so-called Island Kit. This reduces the risk of water entering the gearbox and differential when driving through water.

The transmission and differential vents are raised up to the battery in the engine compartment.

This is what the professionals at Terranger have to say: "The valves of the rear axle lock have been replaced by waterproof counterparts at BUTCH.

The gearbox housings (gearbox, bevel gearbox and differential) are only partially filled with oil, the rest is used to balance the fill level in the event of temperature fluctuations and is open to the outside through the vent hole. If you now drive through the water, the housing and the air volume inside it cools down quickly, which reduces the air density ("air contracts") and draws in air through the vent hole. If the vent hole is below the water surface at this moment, dirty water is sucked into the gearbox housing. This mixes with the oil during operation and causes gearbox damage in the short to medium term. To prevent this, we relocate the breather to the engine compartment of the vehicle."

The air intake of the combustion engine, which is the next critical point when water passes through, has also been raised and is now located in the water tank. The exhaust pipe of the diesel auxiliary heater and that of the auxiliary heater have also been taken into account. Both can be closed off before the water passes through by adding a shut-off valve.

"Let there be light! - And there was light."

If I didn't know that this quote was written in the Bible, more precisely in the story of creation, Genesis, I wouldn't be surprised if someone told me it came from a Lazer Lamps advertising catalog. After seeing what these headlights from the leading English manufacturer of auxiliary headlights can do, I looked for a suitable solution for BUTCH. And lo and behold, there is a radiator grille spotlight kit for the VW T6.1, allowing various Lazer Lamps to be mounted directly in the radiator grille. BUTCH has now been equipped with the ST4 EVO. You can see what they can do here:

Oh yes, I almost forgot. - If you do get stuck in the mud, you have to get the van back onto solid ground quickly. However, the factory-fitted towing eye is only designed for pulling the vehicle on firm ground. In clay and mud, there is a risk that the eyelet will tear out. This is why the so-called Island Kit includes two additional, reinforced towing eyes or recovery eyes. This distributes the load over two eyelets instead of one, which are firmly connected to the structure. Terranger also offers such recovery eyes at the rear. Unfortunately, these were not possible on the BUTCH due to the positioning of the water tank. I am still looking for an alternative.
