You should rest on the seventh day. - We take it easy today, but at the same time use the time to clear the ship.

Everything is aired out, laundry is washed (our washing line proves its worth here - photo to follow!), tire pressure and oil are checked, and so on. Then we have a hearty breakfast.

Suitably armed, we head to the beach, Omaha Beach. I'm sure everything there is to write about this beach, its significance in the Second World War and D-Day has already been written. - So, Marc, I'll just add my feelings for today: on a sunny day like today, the wide sandy beach makes a peaceful, friendly impression. But anyone who has seen the movie "Saving Private James Ryan" knows what a horror took place here on D-Day.

However, D-Day is not only a symbol of horror, but also of freedom. Anyone who knows the war stories of our parents or grandparents will appreciate that we are experiencing the longest, most peaceful and freest period in the history of Europe. Even my father, who was drafted as a so-called "werewolf" in the last days of the war, although the Ruhr area was already surrounded, had to see his best friend die in his arms. It is all the more incomprehensible to me that there are people in our homeland who are once again calling for the "strong man". - I am grateful for my pacifist upbringing and the freedom that began on D-Day. Because it wasn't just the French who were liberated. - Every free-thinking German was too.
