Sunday, November 24th. - Not just any Sunday. - Today would be my late Mr. Dad's birthday.  "I miss you dad"

You know how when you're young, you really want to be different from your parents? - The older you get, the more you, or even worse your siblings, realize how much you have adopted your parents' traits. - The positive thing about this is that you become more tolerant with yourself and therefore with your own parents.

Apart from that, Sunday has hardly any meaning for us. - Yes, shopping is harder. This has to be taken into account. Otherwise, Sunday has become a day like any other. A phenomenon that I have often read about in other blogs. People work just as much or just as little on Sundays as they do on other days. Torgit says "just like in Cologne, nothing has changed." Yes, you're right, I worked a lot on Sundays in my previous life too. So I also had my work-work balance. 😉

Two things came to mind that I wanted to report on again: Firstly, the effect of salty sea air on our bikes. I took an extra photo today. What you can see here as rust was not there eight weeks ago. The chain sprockets were freshly oiled before we left. I also re-oiled them in between. I really think it's time for a tarpaulin now. It remains to be seen whether this will really provide any protection.

I'm enjoying my morning coffee as I write these lines. I've already written about this on several occasions. But I don't think I've mentioned anything about grinding the coffee beans. Somehow it almost has a spiritual touch. I'm not even sure if my grandma really still ground coffee by hand. My mother collects coffee grinders, I'll have to ask her if they are still in regular use. Coffee that you grind yourself simply has a completely different quality. You have to try it. - I'm also looking forward to having our Rocket at home the day after tomorrow.

Actually, there should only be two points, but I have to add a third. This one is for Jamie and Arriba. Do you know dogs, no mutts, that can do nothing but yap and shit? - Those alone are already bad. But a German-speaking tourist who is constantly, practically without interruption, shouting and whistling after her pets, without the dogs even caring, is unbearable. Thank God we want to leave today, otherwise I would understand if we were put in a "German" bag and driven away with them. All I can say is shame.

Today Facebook reminded me that Torgit and I were at GedankenTanken in Cologne a year ago. In recent years, we have often taken part in this event, where various speakers give talks on topics such as motivation, success, happiness, your own business, self-optimization, time management and so on. Tobias Beck also took part last year. The suggestion from his book "Unbox your LIFE" was the trigger for me to move this year's StartUp with "my" salespeople to the Flora in Cologne, where Tobias had a theme day on this topic.

Torgit and I took part in a two-day Personality Bootcamp. - Of course, everyone reacts differently to such events. - Almost all of the participants I met there left the event highly motivated. The aim was to give 100 percent for 48 hours. Torgit was enthusiastic throughout. But I dropped out on the second day. - I realized that I no longer wanted to go higher, faster or further. For me, stopping was the start of something new. So thanks to Tobias and his team. - Incidentally, the book is well worth reading: Tobias Beck describes different types of people in his book that we encounter time and again in everyday life. - He distinguishes between residents, ants, diamonds and super stars.

Residents: Do you know people who always and everywhere draw energy, who constantly grumble and badmouth everything? - Who not only don't enjoy their work, but are constantly complaining about it? - You know residents. You should stay away from them.

Ants: Do you know people who are hard-working, usually happy, socially committed and do their work without grumbling? These are ants. They stay that way, unless they spend too much time with residents.

Diamonds: Do you know people who focus on solutions rather than problems, whose strengths emerge and develop under pressure? They are diamonds.

Super Stars: Do you know people who are already where they always wanted to be? Who put their energy into helping others, who see their job as a calling and love it. Who inspire and ignite other people? - Now you know all four of them.

Tobias explains these in more detail, of course, and also writes about mentors, visions and so on. Exciting and worth reading.

But we also want to tell you something about our day today. Our aim today was to explore the coast a little more. We set off early for this purpose. Now we had to drive back down the way we drove up two days ago. I was glad that the road was dry. I hadn't thought it was that narrow. But such access roads also have their advantages, white goods don't stand a chance here.

At the end of the village we find the bizarre sign PARAGEM, a bus stop. Bullis must have been used for transportation here in the past. - Or how do you see it?

Shortly after the town sign, you can now see the Bauhaus villa by day, which is in the immediate vicinity of our stand. Today I decide to take a photo from the valley side. This photo shows the contrast that we come across here time and again. On the one hand, high-end architecture and often the simplest buildings right next to it. Even the waste disposal or waste incineration is not a matter of course here. - Surely such pictures also belong in our blog.

We continue towards Lagos and the lighthouse at Ponta da Piedade. We stop directly at the lighthouse. Now it's time for breakfast. From here we explore the cliff a little. We are always impressed by how bizarre the individual rock formations are in the water. The Ponta da Piedade, the peak of mercy, rises as a cape about 20 meters above the Atlantic.

After walking over the rocks for a while, we decide to drive on, as we want to see more rock formations today. But we don't get as far as we thought. Just a few hundred meters further on, we come across more extravagant Bauhaus architecture. We decide to take a closer look. An entire construction site with around 20 different Bauhaus villas is being built right next to two large ruined buildings. Although I have no idea what the Portuguese prices are, it is clear that none of these villas are likely to cost less than two or three million. I would be very interested to see who is buying or building here. Because there doesn't seem to be a lack of money.

We continue to Praia do Carvoeiro, beach of the charcoal burner. But our destination is about one kilometer east of the center. Here is the viewpoint Algar Seco. Again we explore the cliff. The special thing about this corner are passages and caves washed into the rock. Via steps carved into the rocks, we can descend almost to the water's edge. The rocks shine in light yellow over ocher to red.

Our next stop is at the Alfanzina lighthouse. If you head to the left of the lighthouse into the little wood, you will reach a bay at the top of the cliffs after a few minutes. From here you also have a wonderful view.

Now it's time to look for a place to sleep for the night. We find a recommendation via park4night. We don't let the "off-road only" sign scare us. -Torgit comes around the corner with the hint that the "we" in this case didn't mean them.

Our approach is exciting for several reasons. On the way to the designated cliff, we pass several very elaborate architect-designed houses. Whether everything is beautiful is certainly in the eye of the beholder, but it is impressive either way.

Here is a link to two examples, because my photos can't match them. But even in the original, the houses look damn cool. I would have loved to sneak through the garden. But the buzzing of the camera can be heard immediately 😉

I think the Villa Utopia by the architect Arquimais Architecture and Design is very, very cool: https://www.jrcoconstrucao.pt/project/villa-nutopia-carvoeiro/2

The Villa Surpresa from ark-architects is available to rent. - So if anyone would like to visit us:

At the end of a road designated as a dead end, the off-road part of our tour begins. - Hector has to make a little effort and I have to concentrate a little. Looking at the track, I just hope we don't get any rain. Otherwise it's going to be a mud fight. But it was worth it, because at the end we are almost at the front of the cliff. - There must have been a house here at some point, because we are standing right next to an old half-height wall. O.K., when we level out, our drive-on wedges not only reach their limit, but break. These are the second wedges to break on this tour. But what are stones for here?

Shortly afterwards, Torgit and I sit on the cliff with a can of beer and enjoy the sunset. - Priceless!

Conclusion of the day: we don't need a Bauhaus villa, a can of beer on a cliff is enough for us to be happy.
