Day No. 132 - Trafalgar - From the sea to the white village - Vejer

We were actually at the campsite to stock up on electricity. What about the tragedy of life? - The construction crew out on the road cuts the main line and there's no electricity.

But at least we were able to enjoy warm showers and a proper washing-up area. - Once again we find ourselves in an illustrious group. A Concorde, or at least the 5* motorhome of the same name, is parked diagonally next to us. - I will never understand how you can buy such a thing with all the money in the world. If it's truck class, then it should be a proper expedition vehicle that you can take through the Sahara. - At least you wouldn't need a truck navigation system.

That reminds me once again of something my friend Uwe used to say. He used to say to my Defender: „Das ist doch kein echter Defender, da kann man hinten ja gar kein Nashorn drauf transportieren.“ - You can always go a little higher, faster, further. - Or as it was once said in a Camel commercial: „Lieber mit einer Schlange im Auto, als mit  dem Auto in der Schlange.“

I've been thinking a lot about route planning over the last few days. I'm not exactly a planner. Of course, I think it's good when a plan works. - But do I have to work it out myself?

I'm thinking of our Bali vacation, for example. Lotte, our friend, had planned every detail. It was really nice to just follow along and be surprised. - In the end, it turned out to be one of the best vacations of my life. - Thanks to you Lotte!!!

But when I think about how time-consuming it is to plan a short trip, to find flights, hotels and restaurants, I don't know if I want to plan this for a long trip.

Sicherlich fahren wir so an dem einer anderen Highlight vorbei. Darum möchte ich noch mal meinen Freund Uwe zitieren: „Da ist es auch schön, wenn ich nicht da war.“ – Heute wären wir fast an einem solchen Highlight vorbeigefahren. Doch wie es der Zufall so will entdecken wir bei der Ausrichtung unseres nächsten Zieles, dass ein Leuchtturm in unmittelbarer Nähe ist. – Leuchtturm ist ja unser Ding.

A few minutes later, we find ourselves at a wonderful surfing hotspot. Two bars, a restaurant and a parking lot. But where is the lighthouse? We first go to the beach and now we can see the lighthouse. It's about a kilometer away and turns out to be a real highlight. - It's extremely quiet here. Is it the early season? Or is it because you have to walk 1 km to explore this tower for customers? So we sit on the cliff for a moment and look out over the water. It's simply beautiful here. Apart from us, there's really only one couple here. I try to capture the moment with the drone.

Only later do I read that the lighthouse stands on Cape Trafalgar, where the infamous Battle of Trafalgar took place at the beginning of the 19th century.

Then we make our way back to the Hector and our actual destination. Would it have been a tragedy if we hadn't seen this tower? - I don't know, we wouldn't have been aware of it.

Our next destination is Vejer de la Frontera - a tip from my big sister. - And yes, my sister has good taste. The white village in the mountains is beautiful. It's worth strolling through the winding alleyways. We enjoy this excursion in the afternoon sun. On the way in and out of Vejer, we notice a road sign that we haven't seen before. -Quads no welcome!

Later, we want to drive a little further. We head further south and roughly towards Tarifa. However, we have chosen the Loma de San Bartolomé mountains above Tarifa as a place to spend the night. A narrow, winding road leads us out of the valley towards the mountain. The first pitch is beautiful and offers a view of the bay in front of Tarifa.

But we drive a little further up. Suddenly we find ourselves in a place below the rocks. - But here we are no longer alone. - A group of Austrians and Germans are sitting here, including their four vans. - Do we really want to join them? But we are greeted so warmly by the girls and boys that it would almost be an insult not to stay here. A van is moved especially for us so that we can get a narrow spot. - We have never been so cozy on the entire tour.

But it really is a nice bunch and we realize that we were already standing near one of these Bullis a few days ago. Contrary to Hector, all the Bullis are self-built. So each vehicle has its own personal charm. We hope that Spector will also be given his own personal touch later on.
